FDSAToday I completed another webinar with Fenzi Dog Sports Academy on Behaviour Intervention Techniques. The talk discusses ways to stop a behavior that is detrimental to the safety or comfort of those around by either preventing access or interaction, changing the dogs direction of travel and safety physically removing a dog from an environment by interrupting, creating space and regrouping in the least aversive way possible. Planning situation management involves considering how to prevent unwanted scenarios and having an intervention plan is essential for dealing with non-negotiable scenarios that could potentially cause harm or a negative outcome. Introduction to the Sport of Nose Work for the Companion DogI have also completed 'Nose Work for the Companion Dog' by Anke King who is Certified Nose Work Instructor, AKC Scent Work Judge. I have not been involved in teaching scent work with dogs for nearly 10years so it was interesting to see which methods Anke King recommends owners use to build on their dogs skills. While previously I have taught nose work (particularly when I trained with NASDU) and been involved in training drug / money / bomb detection dogs, this is not an activity I have specialised in although I have become more interested in the subject recently as my current diploma course explores deeply into the canine sense of smell. |
I am likely to remain off work for many months due to pregnancy / heath complications. Please feel free to message me for recommendations of dog trainers and behaviourists that may have availability instead. While on leave I hope to complete some refresher courses, start my next level of Dog Behaviour and Psychology course and revamp my website and resources. Wishing everyone a happy, healthy 2023 x
