What Is the Pet Professional Guild (PPG)?
The Pet Professional Guild (PPG) is an international membership association for pet professionals, including dog trainers, behaviour consultants, and animal care providers, who are committed to ethical, humane, science-based practices. The Guild exists to promote force-free training and care methods that prioritise animal welfare, emotional wellbeing, and learning through positive experiences.
PPG stands apart in the pet industry by taking a clear and public stance against aversive training techniques. This includes the use of shock collars, prong collars, choke chains, physical punishment, intimidation, or any method that relies on fear, pain, or force. Instead, PPG promotes training approaches that are rooted in behavioural science and compassion, helping dogs learn in a way that is safe, effective, and respectful.
Non-negotiable principles that all members must follow:
Membership of PPG is not simply a label. All members agree to uphold the organisation’s Guiding Principles and Code of Ethical Conduct, which set clear expectations for professional behaviour, training methods, and ongoing education.
